About us

Independent

Mervyn Smith is an independent estate agency specialising in residential sales and lettings in Richmond, Ham and Kingston on the Surrey side of the River Thames. The company has a rich history dating back to 1975 when Mervyn Smith first opened the Richmond Road office. Today the business remains independent, and family owned.

Mervyn Smith prides itself on combining traditional values of customer service with a commitment to embracing modern technology. We were among the first agents to adopt internet property marketing in the early 1990s, recognising the potential to reach a global audience of buyers 24/7. Today we work closely with the UKs most advanced estate agency software, Street.

The agency’s managing partner, Stan Shaw, is a qualified and accredited member of ARLA (Association of Residential Letting Agents) working alongside Joe Hext our Sales Director with over 20+ years in the industry.

Our Office

Other estate agencies have come and gone and been bought and sold, but the Mervyn Smith office on Ham Parade has been a consistent successful presence all the way back to 1975. Our prominent window displays and their lighting always attract plenty of attention and enquiries. A rival estate agent jokes that our bespoke window displays are so bright they’re a danger to aircraft!

We enjoy a busy position in the centre of the Parade alongside restaurants and lots of different shops, yet we’re only a couple of hundred yards from the open spaces of picturesque Ham Common. We’re on the main Richmond Road (the A307) where Kingston Borough meets Richmond Borough. Our location is unusual in that the office is just inside Richmond Borough but has a Kingston postcode. But the advantage of this crossover is that our portfolio covers both Boroughs whilst most estate agency offices only concentrate on a single town.

We advertise in property newspapers in both Richmond Borough and Kingston Borough, which means our vendors effectively get double the advertising coverage they would normally receive, and our buyers get more choice.

The other great advantage of our location is that it’s much easier to park outside our office than in central Richmond or Kingston. There are free 30 minute bays right in front of the Mervyn Smith office and you can also use other nearby bays free for 30 minutes with a Richmond Card. You can also visit us by bus – the 24 hour No.65 bus service stops outside our office and it runs from Ealing, through Kew, Brentford and Richmond and then passes through Ham Parade en route to Kingston. The 371 bus service also crosses the Richmond Road near our office.
