Over the last few days we’ve gone a bit crazy again with offers on houses where the potential buyers think they might just about get it over the line before the stamp duty holiday is scheduled to close on March 31st. We say ‘scheduled’ because there’s been rumours the stamp duty holiday might get extended and a 100,000+ signature petition collated which achieved a parliamentary debate on extending it. As it stands though buyers are understandably most attracted to vacant properties or ones with no chain which offer the best chance of a reasonably quick transaction. Unfortunately though, along with us, conveyancers, surveyors and mortgage lenders are all really swamped with an unprecedented number of ongoing cases which is causing logjams in the system. It was odd that there seemed to be a little bit of a lull in the first couple of weeks after New Year but obviously that was just the eye of the storm passing through!
